Hotel Willa is a 1960s adobe motor lodge at the gateway to Taos' Historic District, reopened in 2025 by Casetta as a 51-room property shaped by the creative culture of the high desert. Rooms are quiet and hand-made — ecru and desert-rose plaster, handwoven textiles, furniture built in New Mexico by Pfeifer Studio — and several open onto private patios with their own fire pits. The forty-foot willow the hotel is named for still anchors its three and a half acres. The art is not decoration. The Paseo Project curates the on-site gallery, the artist-in-residence program, and the work hanging in the guest rooms. juliette, the all-day restaurant, cooks from regional producers — Criollo beef, sourdough from local bakers — and the bar runs to midnight. Outside, a pool, cold plunge and dry sauna face the Sangre de Cristos. Taos Ski Valley is twenty miles up the canyon, about forty minutes. This is the town-side base rather than the slope-side one: ski the Ridge by day, come back down for the gallery, the sauna and dinner.

Dining at Willa is juliette, and juliette is the whole hotel rather than a room in it. Breakfast is served in the lounge, lunch moves poolside, and dinner settles into the dining room under work from the Paseo collection. The kitchen, led by Noah Pettus, describes its cooking as simple and honest rather than regional showpiece — corn, chiles, orchard fruit and herbs from growers like Ron Boyd at La Villita and Don Bustos in Santa Cruz, plus the hotel's own edible garden, which decides much of the menu week to week. Grass-fed beef, no seed oils, good salt. The green chile cheeseburger stays on year-round and is the right order at least once. juliette's bar runs on mezcal margaritas and corn-infused old fashioneds, with an espresso and matcha bar in the mornings. Room service is available in the evening. Note that juliette closes Mondays. Après-Ski Après at Willa is not the boot-clomping kind. That happens twenty miles up the canyon at the Martini Tree Bar, and if you want it, take it there before you drive down. What Willa offers is the second half of the evening. The timing works out neatly. Leave the mountain at closing and you arrive for early evening service, which runs from three — a drink and something small before dinner proper. From there the sequence is the property's own: cedar sauna, cold plunge, heated pool until ten, then the fire pits scattered across the three and a half acres, then dinner. The bar goes to midnight on weekends. It is a slower, warmer, more deliberate end to a ski day than a slopeside bar delivers, and for anyone who came to Taos for the town as much as the mountain, it is the better trade.
